“Don’t Lose!” - Quote from my Dad

So I started reading “75 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑨 𝑻𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑮𝒖𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝑻𝒐 𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒂𝒓 𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇” by Andy Frisella

Now, I wasn’t a fat kid like him, I did play sports & excelled at all of them, & depending on what school I was at, I was or was mostly popular or known.

HOWEVER! Everyone always told me I was dumb & frankly, they still do! I can relate so much to that part of his story! Plus honestly…. The family stuff too

Second grade, third grade, fourth grade ….all my parents in fight after fight after fight…it was very overwhelming, difficult to focus, & no one was worried about learning disabilities back then! My mom & step dad actually thought having conversations with me that lasted hours every report card until I was crying & throwing up was going to make a difference. My step dad literally called me a “Jock” & a “sweat hog” in elementary school! My mom told me at the ripe age of 9, “Honey, you’re going to need to marry a rich man”

NOW! Just like Andy Frisella, I don’t tell you this to have you feel sorry for me. It is what it is & was what it was….it’s half why I’m messed up and had to fix myself & half why I can endure almost anything!

AND! Just like Andy Frisella, I had a biological father who would tell me right before I did anything in any sport, “Don’t lose”. If he couldn’t come to my event, he’d tell me, “Don’t come home & tell me you lost”

My biological dad was mostly kidding when he said those things, but I understood what he meant & I didn’t lose . I didn’t want to have to say, “I lost.” It was that simple.

I do tell my kids, “Don’t lose” before they do something & they treat me just like I treated my dad. They roll their eyes & tell me “that’s child abuse.” Then they go take care of business! Whatever that happens to be for them!
